2015/2016 season of dried apricots, one of the traditional export products of Turkey, which is the World leader in terms of production and export, has given quite good results. During the period from 1st August to 30 November 2015, which represent one - third of 2015/16 season, exports of dried apricots reached a foreign exchange earnings of 137 802 391 US dollars. The biggest increase in exports of dried apricots was realized in Russia and the United States of America.
Comparing this performance with the same period in 2014, exports of dried apricots were then registered as 134 082 US dollars. While our exports of dried apricots showed an increase of 3 per cent, it is worth to note that the highest increase was registered in the United States of America as well as in Russia, after the big crisis faced after the crashing of the plane
While during the first quarter of 2014/15 season, Turkey exported dried apricots to the United States of America for a value of 8.8 million dollars, she succeeds in increasing her exports by 180 per cent within the same period of 2015/16 season, bringing Turkey with foreign exchange earning amounting 24 873 000 US dollars.
While during the period of 01 August to 30 November 2015, Turkey exported dried apricots to Russia for a value of 2 380 000 US dollars, she succeeds in increasing her exports by 130 per cent within the same period in 2015, reaching a new record of 5 487 000 US dollars.
During the period of 01 August to 30 November 2015, Turkish exports of dried apricots in quantity reached 31 875 tons, while dried apricot exports during the same period in 2014 reached 20 034 tons.
From the total exports of dried apricots, exports of whole dried apricots constitute the main share with 122 647 000 US dollars and the share of industrial dried apricots reached 5 689 000 US dollars. For the first trimester of 2015/16 season, Turkey succeeds in exporting cut dried apricots for a value of 9 465 000 US dollars.
With a share of 48 per cent in Turkish total exports of dried apricots, Aegean exporters are at the first rank in dried apricot exports, with amounts 65 846 000 US dollars. They are followed by the exporters, members of the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Association, who exported dried apricots for a value of 41 199 000 US dollars.
The United States of America takes place on the top of the exports of dried apricots with an export value of 24 873 000 US dollars, followed by France with 13 366 000 US dollars at the second place and Germany at the third rank with 13 million 6 thousand US dollars. After them, Brazil, England, Australia and Russia are the biggest exporters.
As Mr Osman Öz, Chairman of the Sector Council of Turkish Dried Fruit Exporter Associations, declared, the crop of dried apricots in 2014/2015 season, foreseen at 8.120 tons, had been the lowest crop in Turkish history. With the real figures of the crop being better than the previsions and the stock remaining from the precedent season of about 50-60 thousand tons, he added that it had been possible to meet export needs in dried apricots during 2014/15 season.
Mr Öz stressed that the crop of dried apricots for 2015/16 season was foreseen at 84 500 tons and that Turkish apricot exports were having a successful season. And he addes “At the beginning of the season, we targeted an export of 80 thousand tons. We are taking firm steps towards this objective. We wish that the increase in exports ensured in Russia and the United States would cheer all our other export sectors.”
